Part Way There by Linda O. Johnston

Romance writer.

That’s me.  Especially right now.

In addition to mysteries.  But as I mentioned in an earlier post here, my current mystery series is over. The fifth and last in the Barkery & Biscuits series, For A Good Paws, was a May release. Will I write more mysteries? I hope so… but not for a while.

Why?  I’ve got a bonanza of deadlines for romances! I’m under contract for four Harlequin Romantic Suspense books.

The first two are part of their long-lived Colton continuity series, filled with lots of Colton relatives in real and fictional towns all over the place.  Mine are in two different mini-series in two fictional towns.  I’ve finished going over the line edits for the first, although I got the changed manuscript back to read one more time.  I’m also about to submit the manuscript for the second, so I’m making progress.

The last two are in a mini-series of my own, a spin-off from my K-9 Ranch Rescue mini-series for HRS, the Shelter of Secrets mini-series. I’m just starting to work on the first of those.  The Coltons don’t necessarily have dogs. But these will!

So as much as I’d love to take on more mysteries, or even something different, they’ll have to wait till I feel I can deal with additional deadlines. Right now, I’m particularly enjoying romances.

By the way, I do a lot of crossword puzzles. One clue recently was “Harlequin product” or something like that.  The answer?  I’ll bet you can guess.

Yes, it was “romance.”

Linda

This New Year

Happy New Year everyone!

This new year is going awfully fast already. I looked at my calendar and realized it was almost the 6th of the month–my day to post here at A Slice of Orange. Where did the first days of this year go?
This year has started out fairly busy. For one thing, I won’t be able to attend the first and second OCC meetings of 2017, even though I’d love to. But the reasons are good ones: I’m going to be attending the Santa Clarita Library’s Celebration of Authors on January 14, and I’ll be attending a relative’s wedding on February 11.
As I said, good reasons–but I’ll miss OCC and its wonderful members!
This year promises to be a busy one for me. As always, I’m working on books under deadline. Just sent off one manuscript for a Harlequin Romantic Suspense, and starting my fourth mystery in my Barkery & Biscuits Mysteries. My next published novel will be the third Barkery book, Bad to the Bone, which will be a May release, and in June my next Harlequin Nocturne in my Alpha Force series, about a covert military unit of shapeshifters, will come out: Protector Wolf.

I hope you all have a wonderful year filled with everything you want. And I hope to see you in March!

Looking Forward to Romance

My attendance at OCC meetings has been spotty this year due to conferences, book festivals and family matters, but I’m delighted to say I intend to be there this month.

The conferences I’ve attended this year have all related to mysteries, which I write in addition to romances. One was the Sisters in Crime meets Hollywood event, where speakers taught us how to pitch our mysteries to those who might be interested in making them into movies or TV shows. It was fun, but I’ll be surprised if any of my stories even get optioned.

Another event was the Dog Writers Association of America annual meeting in New York City. Most of the writers there write nonfiction–about dogs, of course. I was there because one of my mysteries was a finalist in the fiction category of their Maxwell Awards. It was fun, plus it was right next door to the Westminster Dog Show. I even saw some of my favorite pups: Cavalier King Charles Spaniels.

I also attended Left Coast Crime in Phoenix in February this year. And last weekend I was at Malice Domestic in Bethesda, Maryland. It’s for cozy mystery writers and fans. And I’m glad to say that my next cozy, TO CATCH A TREAT, the second in my Barkery & Biscuits Mysteries, is officially available in a couple of days, on May 8.

Lots of events and conferences. I’ve only one more currently planned, and I’m really looking forward to it: RWA National in San Diego! I’ll bet a lot of you who are reading this blog post will be there, too. RWA National is always fun and informative, and this year the conference is practically in our backyard.

Hope to see you at OCC this month–and RWA National in July!

Happy New Year!

Well, I’m sorry to say that I’ll probably miss the first OCC meeting of the year this weekend, but I’m not sorry for the reason: the post-holiday arrival of more family, including my grandsons!

Last month I mentioned here that I was writing a Harlequin Romantic Suspense novel, COVERT ALLIANCE, which will be published in August 2016, a sequel to my Identity Division book COVERT ATTRACTION.  I sent it off to the editor early this week.  I also mentioned that I was about to republish one of my backlist books, a time travel romance called THE BALLAD OF JACK O’DAIR, on Kindle.  It was available then and now for preorder and will be available on January 25.  And right now, I’ve started working on my third Barkery & Biscuits Mystery, but with family around suspect I won’t have a lot of time to write for at least a couple of weeks.

It’s all a great start to 2016, and I’m looking forward to more fun–as well as keeping busy.  And hopefully getting to lots of future chapter meetings.

And let me take this opportunity to wish the same to you.  Happy New Year, and I hope you keep as busy as you want with whatever you want to keep you busy!

Year Ending Soon!

Last month, my blog heading was that this year was going fast.  And now it’s a month later–the last month of 2015.  Talk about going fast!

I’ve been busy, and there’s a lot going on.  I’m writing away, currently working on a Harlequin Romantic Suspense novel, COVERT ALLIANCE, which will be published in August 2016, a sequel to my Identity Division book COVERT ATTRACTION.  I’m also about to republish one of my backlist books, a time travel romance called THE BALLAD OF JACK O’DAIR, on Kindle–and it’s available now for preorder!  Check it out–it’s got a curious heroine who’ll do anything to learn the end of a ballad about a brave hero and winds up going back in time to the Alaskan gold rush, where she meets him and his wolf-dog Taku.  If you’ve known me that long, maybe you’ll recall the print version.

I’m looking forward to this month’s OCC meeting, as always.  Once again it’ll be a quandary whether to attend PAW or stay for the regular meeting.  The morning session is about writing contracts, and I’ve always loved contracts… even though my law license is currently inactive.

So, I hope to see you there this month, too.
