Our Orange County Chapter of RWA has passed the quarter century mark and now we’re on to a new beginning – the start of the next twenty-five years. In 2006, we made fantastic strides in so many areas:
Our monthly meetings continue to be equivalent to mini-conferences, with great speakers and opportunities for in-depth networking.
OCC/RWA has been the first chapter to have audio and video podcasts on iTunes. Both our OCC website and our Orange Blossom newsletter won first place in RWA National’s prestigious contests.
Our Book Buyer’s Best contest was a fabulous success and has now become one of the major contests for published authors to enter. In 2007 it will be even better with two Top Pick winners – one chosen by Borders Group, Inc, and another chosen by romance buyers from Levy Entertainment!
Our 24th annual Orange Rose Contest for unpublished writers continues to be a favorite of editors – the chapter contest they love to judge.
Our online classes were phenomenal. Some classes that would cost more than $500 were offered to members at the minimal fee of $20.
OCC’s PRO group has doubled and is steadily increasing.
Our media director has expanded our presence in the writing industry through several venues, including Writer’s Digest ads that feature our chapter and its members. These are just some of the things we’ve accomplished. In the coming year, our board’s goal is to build on these successes. OCC/RWA is on its way to becoming the romance resource for the media, the readers, and the writers.
Make this year your new beginning. Invest in yourself and your career. Stay informed, stay involved, and stay on the cutting edge of publishing. See page 15 and renew your OCC membership now.
Happy Writing! Sandy and Mindy, OCC/RWA Co-Presidents
