The Gardener

You water me
that I may grow
lush and luxurious

you prune me
when my branches stray
too far out or too high

you mulch me when
you think I may
wilt or die

you nurture me as if
I’m too frail to stand
on my own

as if without you
I may fail to thrive

in truth, maybe it is you
who needs me,
to survive.

  • Resilience

I carve a piece of blue sky
    for the dark days ahead

  • Shadows

    ong      shadows

    the afternoon    s t r e t c h e s   us

    on the sidewalks

  • In My Twilight Zone

    Between sunset’s fiery streaks
    slipping into the sea, and
the rising of the silver moon
    is my twilight zone.

  • The Cobwebs

    I was leaning
    by the window
    standing outside
    looking in—

  • Wanderer

    by the river
    he looks lost
    his face appears ancient
    in rumination
    under the sycamores’
    embracing shade
    thinks he might see
    God
