By Linda O. Johnston

As people who know me are aware, I love to write about animals–both the real and fictional sort. This month, my focus is on shapeshifters. Werewolves. They’re characters in my new Harlequin Nocturne, ALASKAN WOLF, which is a December release!

ALASKAN WOLF is the second full-length novel in my Alpha Force miniseries. I also write Nocturne Bites, which are e-novellas. Alpha Force is a fictional, highly covert military unit of shapeshifters. I know there’ve got to be a lot of elite, Special Ops military sorts in the real armed forces. I’m sure they’re trained well, have all sorts of very special abilities.
I wonder if any of them ever wish they had superhuman abilities. Paranormal kinds. Like shifting into another kind of creature to make it easier to go undercover.

It’s fun to let my imagination go wild over my fictional military unit. In ALASKAN WOLF, I got to use some real memories of visits to Alaska and its glaciers and even a dog sled ride. The sled I rode had wheels, though, since I was there at a time of year when there wasn’t any snow on the ground.
But how fun to have my hero shapeshift out on the ice and run wild like a real wolf! Of course there’s also plenty of heat in the story when he and the heroine get together.

How about you–do you like shapeshifters? Do you enjoy reading about them?

Would you like to be one? If so… what would you change into?

ALASKAN WOLF, another in the Alpha Force series from Harlequin Nocturne, is a December 2010 release.

Be sure to watch for the new Lauren Vancouver, Pet Rescuer series! The first book BEAGLE MANIA will be out in March 2011. It’s a spin-off from the Kendra series, and Lauren is introduced in HOWL DEADLY.
