Iâ€™m not sure Iâ€™d even heard the word â€œblogâ€ five years ago. Or maybe I had, but hadnâ€™t imagined I might ever blog myself. I know now that blogs existed before then. But theyâ€™ve clearly grown in scope and importance.

And, yes, I realize that blogging is just one part of todayâ€™s social media. Itâ€™s probably one of the oldest–or not. Apparently Facebook was founded in 2004, and Twitter in 2006. I discovered them more recently, too, though–and Iâ€™m still managing to avoid Twitter.

In any event, blogging seems to remain one of the most utilized social media outlets. It has survived for a while and appears to keep growing.

It certainly does in my life.

Iâ€™m delighted to blog here on A Slice of Orange on the sixth of each month–a wonderful habit I began at the end of 2007. Iâ€™m in excellent company here, considering who the other bloggers are.

Every Wednesday, I blog at KillerHobbies.blogspot.com –the result of the mysteries that I write involving animals. Of course Iâ€™m always clear on the fact that pets arenâ€™t hobbies, theyâ€™re family. Even so, I enjoy being a Killer Hobbies blogger. I began blogging there in 2007, too–earlier in the year. Once again, Iâ€™m in good company!

But thatâ€™s not all.

The delightful bloggers at Writers in the Storm–members of OCC–recently invited me to be a frequent guest blogger, mostly about mysteries and how I plot and write them. Thatâ€™s always a pleasure to think about and describe, so of course I said yes.

At the moment, Iâ€™m obsessed by blogging. Why? Well, my second Pet Rescue Mystery, THE MORE THE TERRIER, a Berkley Prime Crime book, will be an October release. So will my next Harlequin Nocturne Bites, HAWKâ€™S CHALLENGE, part of my Alpha Force miniseries about a covert military unit of shapeshifters. My next Bites, COUGARâ€™S CONQUEST, will be a November release. Iâ€™ve been setting up a blog tour to promote all of them. So far, Iâ€™ve got about ten blogs scheduled in late September through the end of October, with, I hope, more to come.

Iâ€™ll write them all. Each of the blog sites has faithful readers as well as new ones. I canâ€™t wait to connect with every one of them!

I wonder how many blogs actually exist in the cyber universe. How many bloggers there are, and how many readers and followers. I tried to do a search before posting this blog and found a lot of references to sites that count statistics for other sites.

One website, Technorati, links to 1,278,867 blog sites, or it did at the moment I looked at it. Iâ€™d imagine there are actually more blogs than that, though.

Iâ€™m particularly curious about how many blogs there are by and about writers. If you happen to know, please tell me. Iâ€™d also love to hear what your favorites are–and be sure to include A Slice of Orange, Killer Hobbies, and Writers in the Storm.

A Break from Writing? Not Really.

What does a writer do between drafts of a story? Well, that depends.

I finished a first draft of my upcoming fourth story in my Shelter of Secrets series for Harlequin Romantic Suspense. It still needs some work, but it’s currently in the hands of my excellent beta reader.
The Second Half of the Year Has Begun–Already!

I’ve had a fun few weeks–including my usual writing. Plus, I heard that the Dog Writers Association of America, of which I’m a member, was looking for humorous articles for their upcoming issue of RUFF DRAFTS, their publication, so I of course had to submit a short article about how my puppy keeps me from concentrating on my writing by insisting that I play fetch with her while I’m sitting at the computer. Humorous?
This Year Continues – Fun!

I recently got word that my next Alaska Untamed Mystery, CRY WOLF, number two in the series, is now scheduled for publication on November 7. I love the cover! And the series is the first in which I’ve taken a pseudonym: Lark O. Jensen.

It’s not my only remaining book this year. I was already aware that my Coltons of New York book for Harlequin Romantic Suspense is also a November release. CSI COLTON AND THE WITNESS is officially out on November 27.
