A Fantasy Life by Janet Quinn Cornelow

I would like to say that I have been writing and working on my new fantasy romance. That would be stretching things. I had planned on writing last Saturday because I had cleared everything that needed to be done. Then my youngest and his wife showed up. That ruined the rest of my plans. I ended up fixing the dinner and settling some other problems. Needless to say I got no writing done.

Life has been a bit upside down, so I don’t know how much writing I will be getting done. My day job that I have had for 12 years has gone bankrupt and we will be closing December 18 unless someone buys my boss out. That probably isn’t going to happen. It is really sad. I really like my job and will miss my babies (my students).

I have been teaching on line for the last three years and have found a second place to teach. Of course that means training for four weeks. It starts November 1 and goes into December because we get Thanksgiving week off. That will take the up any extra time I have because I still have to show up at work and teach my other classes. I figure the training won’t be that bad since it is basically the same thing I do now. The polices are a bit different, but the actual teaching is the same.

The good news is that Michael, my middle son, and his wife are having a baby, so I will finally be a grandmother in May. The baby is due around Mother’s Day so I figure I won’t be seeing them this year, but that is okay. I’m excited about being a grandma. Of course, I won’t be taking the baby around since I don’t carry too well, but I figure by the time the baby’s walking, I can get seatbelts installed on the walker so he or she doesn’t fall off.

Everyone have a great Thanksgiving since this is my last blog until then.

I can’t believe that I have been doing this blog for two years now. This is my 24th entry. Time does do by fast.

For those of you who used to help me do the newsletter all those years ago and knew Rob, he got married in September. Talk about time going by fast. He used to wait impatiently for the “portant” ladies to show up to help mom. Jill Marie Landis spent as much time cutting and pasting with Rob as she did helping with the newsletter. He just thought it was the greatest thing to get to help, though I’m not sure how much help he was. Then, he was only three.

Now he’s sort of all grownup and married.

My contemporary, fantasy romance was released on September 18 from Whiskey Creek Press. It was a fun book to write because the heroine was a witch and so many funny things could happen along the way. It is lighter than the other books I have written.

Now I am getting ready to build a new world for a fantasy, alternate universe book that I am finally going to start. There is an evil wizard, the hero from contemporary New York, and the heroine from the same universe as the evil wizard. Both the hero and heroine are in law enforcement, but the heroine uses magic instead of bullets to capture felons. I’m still working on what is the same in both universes so that the readers realize that it is an alternate universe. That seems to be the most difficult part.

I have a new book coming out from Whiskey Creek Press in September. Wanted: True Love is a contemporary, fantasy romance. Bree-Anna, the heroine, is a witch coming up on her 200th birthday and needs to find true love to break a curse that was put on her by Gerard, a warlock. Unfortunately, every time Bree-Anna thinks she has found true love, Gerard steps in and something untoward happens to her suitor. Now she has met Quint. A hunk that she can really go for, if she can keep Gerard away from him. She only has two weeks to make Quint fall in love with her. And she can’t use her magic.

I have finished the galley and now I am waiting for the new cover. It just doesn’t feel finished without a cover and I have nothing to put up for a picture this month because I don’t have a cover.

I am still recovering from hurting my back and have gotten no writing done. I went to the movies yesterday and am paying for it today. My back does not like sitting for long times without moving. That could be why I am not getting much writing done.

I have spent most of the last six weeks on the couch watching reruns because I pinched a nerve in my back and couldn’t do much else.

It amazes me how many writers there are in different series. They all seem to write mysteries and make a great deal of money with their first books. Maybe that is where people get the idea if they write a book they are going to make enough money to quit their day jobs.

In Bones, Temperance Brenner’s publisher gave her a sports car and complete strangers ask her about her books. In NCIS, McGee wrote a book and now has money and can get into places that only let in the rich and famous. Both of them used their coworkers as characters in their books.

Then there is Castle. He’s on a permanent ride-along with the police. He has his own bulletproof vest that says Writer on it. Like the police would let a civilian into crime scenes or when they are about to arrest someone at gun point.

Being a writer on television seems to be better than being a writer in real life. A fantasy we would all like to be part of.

Unfortunately, I haven’t done much else than watch television. I have two chapters to finish Sam’s story. I did edits and read the galley on my next book. Hopefully the next month will be better as my back gets better.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Me. I’ve been laid up with a pinched nerve in my back for the last week. Now, I am having a strange reaction to the pills they gave me and can’t breath.

However, I did want everyone to think I just forgot it was my day to blog, so this is it.

Have a great July 4th also.
